I've got 2 tanks running now- my 36 gallon community and my 10 gallon shrimp tank. I'm hoping to add some floating plants to each/either to help suck out any extra nutrients there may be in there to help prevent algae, and my LFS only has Riccia and Water Lettuce- I wanted to know if either of these would help (was planning on putting them in a net/barrier/etc. to keep them in one place and prevent spreading) prevent algae from forming or taking hold?

Specs:
The only live plant in the 36 gallon is a bit of flame moss, the rest of it is silk plants, small gravel substrate. The 10 gallon shrimp tank is lightly planted with a few Java Fern, Anubias Golden, and Taiwan Moss, with Tahitian Moon Sand Substrate. The 36 gallon has 2x18W T5 lights, and the 10 gallon has a standard 15W fluorescent light... no ferts or CO2 for either- just fish.

I don't know anything about riccia, but I know water lettuce is a great nutrient hog. Frogbit and duckweed are as well, although duckweed is probably as bad as the algae to most people.

I would choose something other than duckweed unless you have things that love to chow down on it (like Ameca splendens)...especially since it will drive out any plants that have any sort of light requirement.
