i am getting 3ft tank length dont no the width or depth yet but i no it ll be 3ft am looking to get a good varrity of fish in but not 1s that will eat other etc and i want live plants in and good filter and air system HELP ME PLZ!!!!!
The best way (IMHO) is to go to a local fish store and ask them to test your water for ph and hardness. With the results you get, find a book or use the internet to find fish that are compatable with your water. It is always better to start off with fish that are from the type of water that you have.It is tricky to play with water chemistry and get fish at the same time. Reading and more reading will go a long way to prevent dead fish and wasted money.
wot does IMHO mean i thought when i get my tank i add watter gravel heater and air filter and put air pump in then get declorene it or something wait 24 hours get the water tempereture right then a couple of fish in each week
I wouldn't put in any "important" fish or plants for a few weeks until there is bacteria established in the tank, you need to let the tank cycle or "age"
With a 3ft tank and live plants you'll probably be looking at a community tank. Since African cichlids will eat the plants & the tank will be too small for most South/Central American cichlids. With a community set up you can get lots of variety without much aggression as well.
First, WELCOME TO AC! You'll LOVE Fish keeping, and glad to have you here!!!
Secondly: This is a decent article on what you need to get started: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=155028 It wont answer ALL your questions, and will probably give you more, but it's easier for us to help if you narrow down the questions more specifically.
Look through the AC articles and FreshWater Forums- they are a GREAT resource and have DEFINITELY helped me out tons!
Again, welcome, I'm so excited to see your new tank as it grows!!!
