my turtle tears through duckweed (any floater, really) just way too fast to keep paying to have more shipped to me, so i'm looking for local sources of duckweed, frogbit, any similar free or uber-cheap floating plants for him to eat. i can pick up anywhere on the peninsula or southside, and even up towards williamsburg or toano, if need be. thank you!

Have you ever considered going to the Capital Cichlid Association meets? I could bring you a couple gallons of water lettuce next saturday (its near DC in silver spring, md) if you are interested. here is a link: http://www.capitalcichlids.org/index.php?

Sounds like the perfect excuse to get another aquarium to me. To grow your own floating plants in. Keep snails or shrimp in it... they won't mind the shade!

Can tell the S/O... well I'm doing this to "SAVE" money because I don't have to keep buying floaters this way! ;)

How about a bucket outside? Just a couple of mosquito fish in it to eat any mosquito larvae.

Sure- it'll need to move in during the winter months...
