what size tank are you talking about for that combo?

unless it is a truly huge as in a couple of hundred gallons then the jags will very likely eventually destroy the black belt.

not 100% definate but much more likely that they will kill it than otherwise.

as to jag sexing, the smaller lighter coloured ones are usually females. however im not sure if you can tell at that size.

ATM they would be in a 4ft but in 6 months a 6x2x2 but by the sounds of it a black belt is a white belt compared to a jag

go jags go

its not that the black belts are not a tough fish. but the jags are pure predators and the majority of them turn very mean when they mature.

and since they are predators they are equiped to do some serious damage.

it is possible, just unlikely.

you get a much better chance of co-habitation if you can get a massive tank.

Ive read of people keeping a number of cichlids that are supposed to be very difficult to keep with other fish together in tanks of a couple of hundred gallons.

IME jags are only hyperaggressive during breeding, when they aren't breeding they usually just defend their territory by flaring their gills and open their mouth. Extremely territorial, but for the most part defensive and not offensive. In my experience that is.
