Well thanks to StarStruck8 I pick up my Long Fin GBR's on Sat and they have settled in quickly.
They have already started burrowing in the sand belly rubbing and mommy has her tube extended ready to lay eggs which I expect any day now. I have kept breeding pairs before but have never been able to raise the fry. They're in a 20g tall temp. until the 33L gets moved due to poor planning on my part.

Hope to have better luck this time around.

Here's the happy pair

Here's a shot of the regular GBR's with fry's hovering before mom eats them, they kept this batch 4+ days free swimming before they disappeared.

i would say get the 30long ready and when the fry come, net atleast 5 and put them in the other tank away from the parents. that way if the parents eat the others, you will still have fry to raise!

Well it only took hours from the start of the post.

Here are the eggs w/ pops hard at work already she laid the eggs on the Java fern.

It's a nice size clutch:dance: now the work begins for me too.

BoCoMo: For me GBRs are right up there with Discus, in my book, as my favorites for freshwater.

rocker92: I actually have a 20g long I'm setting up for the fry I have to cycle some sponges and dig up heater not to mention start the brineshrimp hatching in the next day or so. I only have 2 fry from my regular GBR's don't expect anymore fry from that pair since the female died shortly after that batch.

They colored up nicely! I'm sure they are loving being out of my QT tank. I see you mentioned a tube extending from the female...I noticed that happening with one of my females and was panicking thinking she had some kind of parasite. I'm glad I don't have to worry about netting her out of the 75 gallon!

These guys just seem to want to make babies all the time. Good luck hatching and raising them!

Great looking fish.

I would do it the other way round, net the parents out and leave the fry to grow in the 20g.

Getting GBRs into the tank is easy, getting them out is another story...LOL They wasted no time settling in and that was great, I was a little worried they were stressed from the commute and dripping them in.

Picked up Sat. eggs Mon. that's a record...LOL

are you gonna move the eggs or fry?

I've tried it both ways with my regular GBRs, when I moved the parents lost the mom and when I moved the fry I lost all the fry. I don't know these parents instinct with fry I may just see how they do raising them for themselves this go around and only remove a few as suggested here.

Great looking fish.

Thanks. See above I have tried it both ways.
