Try going to C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Favorites and see if your old bookmarks are there.

You can also try running system recovery (the day before ie was updated) or you can try what dpenguinfish (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/member.php?u=75000) mentioned, when installing firefox you'll have the option to transfer all your ie bookmarks over, just to see if that works.

Well I am sure now the wife will be happy that I upgraded her IE7 to IE8 (like she would notice) But everything went fine no issues other than Google needing update. Maybe this will fix her issues with IE7 crashing every once in a while.

I have upgraded my entire business network ( minus servers ) to IE8...Not had a single problem with any of them...

Well now my Virus software is all wonky too and it just says "error" I am sooooo ticked I have no idea if I am supposed to call Microsoft, Dell, or what but this wasn't like this before. I am about ready to rip out my hair!

Am unsure how installing IE8 can have any effect on your virus scanner, unless its the add-on for internet explorer which is at fault....which is easily sorted...Microsoft wont support you, unless you pay, so, Dell is your support option there if needed...

OK so it's an easy fix? Everything was fine before I upgraded to IE8, that is the only thing I can think caused this and a web search sort of confirmed because other ppl were complaining of similar issues :mad2:

IE8 and AVG installs toolbar scanner. I know when I 1st opened IE8 had google error and I needed to update the google bar. No big deal though.

I am seriously ready to backup my important stuff on a hard drive and rip this thing back to the factory settings like when I got it off the shelf. That or beat it into a million pieces! I can't get my virus software to scan, update, firewall to unlock, can't figure out where all my favorites went and who knows what else went "poof" *sighs*

I get
"Scan has encountered a problem from which it cannot recover. Here are problem details - Scan failed to start result =-2147467259"
when finished you will return to the home window

Hit fix to correct "am I protected" and I get "One or more problems cannot be fixed because of an error"

OH JEEZ!!!!

go to start -control panel/then add/remove programs - remove IE 8 once done reboot your system.
it should get you back to where you where . if you want to reinstall IE8 turn your virus and or spyware programs off , they probley was the the problem not letting the full down load in.

I will try this, at this point I don't think I have much to lose! Will let you know how it goes thanks :thm:

I personally think IE is garbage, I dumped it many moons ago, I now use
firefox and would never go back to IE, if you decide to install another browser just disable IE and install the browser of your choice, firefox or
Google Chrome are two of the better ones.

I have also had a few IE8 issues in my office over the last month. go to the directory where your favorites are located, if you open the folder and see the links to your save sites, its still there.
I have not used IE in years except for doing manual updates for the OS.

I would also recommend uninstalling IE8. I've installed it on a few machines at work and haven't had any problems with it.

Is this XP or Vista? If the uninstall of IE8 doesn't work, you could try reverting back to a previous restore point. A restore point was more than likely created before the update was installed. Let us know if the uninstall works.
