Hmm hard to tell.. The black goes through the tail but the line doesn't look zig zag..The zig zag looks faded. I would say it's a true SAE that has been in the dark for a little while? SAE's color goes off like that when they are in the dark and exposed to instant light. You just took a shot right after pulling him out of the plastic bag? His colors aren't showing. You should quarantine the little guy and see if his colors get better during his stay n the quar tank. How young is it btw?
I think it is, but this specimen is either very young or not the strongest pick of the litter. That dorsal fin is characteristic in shape for SAE's

When the fish is belly up around the glass (mine often swim up and down the front glass) check for the black coloration around the vent.

Hmm...today he started to chase my pygmies whenever they were around him, same with my oto. He looks like a true sae, 2 barbels, the stripe through the tail, fins are clear......

+1
Clear fins, no extra yellow/gold strip above the black lateral, somewhat serrated lateral etc.
has my vote for a true SAE
