automotive sponge OK for filter

Hi all,

I need to make a new filter, and I can't seem to find any foam. I'm wondering if anyone's ever used those big automotive sponges. They look OK to me, but I'm worried that they might contain some sort of toxic additive . Thanks!

The only way to know for sure is to write the manufacturer. I don't believe they are treated with anything.

Im fairly sure that your not gonna want to use those. Theres no telling what type of chemicals are on it. you might just have to buy one. Try google that might help

you would have to look at what chemicals might be in the sponge, usually they are on the back of the box/bag

Thanks for all the replies. The packaging says nothing about the contents. I guess it's best to err on the side of caution, tho.
