I know there's many people out there who's parents, significant other,or whoever doesn't approve of the aquatic hobby.
Here's a few things that you can tell them to consider.
-Food cost is extremely low.
-It's not a big deal if you miss a feeding
-they do not smell
-fish do not make noise.
-fish do not shed.
-they do not have dandruff.
-they do not need bathing.
-they do not carry fleas,or ticks.
-they will not defecate on your floor,or scent your clothes.
-they will not get into things that they aren't supposed to.
-they will not need to be given shots, spayed, neutered,or tagged.
-they are a pleasure to look at
-Stands can be a piece of furniture
-Initial costs are usually* much less than that of purchasing other pets.
Feel free to add anything else.
All in all, fish are the ideal pet.

Hee. My husband's pretty good. He enjoys the fish, he just doesn't "get" the whole thing. ;) He cracks me up though- he's been the one home when all my fish and snails have been delivered today. He called me today when the snails came, and he was so excited about the big ivory brigg! He acclimated them and put them in the tank and he was like "it's moving all around and it's little antenae are wiggling!" He likes the cories, too.

of course fish keep me out of trouble, when ya spend all your spare coin on filters, food, new fish, etc, you have none left to go out drinking with and thus keep yourself from doing silly things, lol.

If fish keeping is a hobby, there are possibly other people out there that also enjoy them too. We should consider having a website in the manner of a forum where we could dedicate to, and discuss our hobby.
I don't have Gran Mal MTS, I substitute my Petite Mal seizures in it's place so I can use it as an excuse to have MTS for therapeutic reasons. :D
BTW-
- They don't track mud in on your clean floors
- They don't create dust
- They don't drag out toys and leave them on the steps for you to trip on
- They don't wet in the middle of the night if you forget
- They don't try to hump the leg of an important visitor
- They don't beg for food while your eating
- They don't ask to borrow the car
- They don't bother you while you're on the phone
- They don't want to date that weirdo you disapprove of

for the significant other part, I'll use the "it's something I really like to do, and it keeps me out of trouble".
If she says no to that, then she's the one with the problem. :D
-No respiratory problems. Want avian flu from your birds?
-No chirping either from the silly birds.

Just for a laugh...some of those points that you might not want to elaborate on...especially to the parents or spouse:
-Food cost is extremely low.
(til you realize how GOOD the pricier foods are...still cheaper than dog or cat food though!)
-It's not a big deal if you miss a feeding
(tell that to the fish!)
-they do not smell
(opinions vary...I like the smell of a healthy planted tank)
-fish do not make noise.
(No, but the pumps and filters sure do!)
-they will not defecate on your floor,or scent your clothes.
(have you smelled my clothes after I do water changes in 6 tanks?)
-they will not get into things that they aren't supposed to.
(umm...filters, crevices they can't get out of, other fish mouths, out of the tank onto the floor...)
-they will not need to be given shots, spayed, neutered,or tagged.
(no, just medicated when they get sick...Oh, and I'll need another tank for that please!)
-Stands can be a piece of furniture
(and the nice stands cost as much as good furniture too-unless you build yer own)
- They don't drag out toys and leave them on the steps for you to trip on
(no, but I do...hoses mostly :) )
- They don't wet in the middle of the night if you forget + They don't bother you while you're on the phone
(ahh yes, but when...you forget to remove the siphon from the tank when cleaning up...or get distracted while you are on the phone? you betcha they do :headshake2: Took a few towels to clean THAT up)
- They don't try to hump the leg of an important visitor + They don't want to date that weirdo you disapprove of
(no, but my limia tridens will mate with mollies 6x their size!)
- They don't beg for food while your eating
(no, just constantly)
All in good fun...

No I have to wake up at 3AM to check why the filter is noisy or the air pump has fallen on the floor and making a racket.
LOL!
Glad they dont take over the bed LOL... ;)
