Despite spending a lot of my day reading up on pike cichlids I'm still having trouble distinguishing which species stay medium-sized (6"-9" max) and which get much larger (15"+).

I'm looking for one that won't get larger than 6-10" for a 150 gallon aggressive tank. Any input?

There's a handful of crenicichla that stay smaller than 10". Try to google these: c. menezesi, c. regani, c. belly crawler, c. lucius, c. compressiceps.

if you can find crenicichla sveni, they're really active & I've kept them with aggressive cichlids & other (gar, pacu, & clown knife) they fended well & have good coloration

Thanks. The guys and gals over at MFK also are nodding towards sveni, so I think I will try and go that direction.
