I have a 36w double helix UV sterilyzer I plan on setting up with my 55. Assuming the thing will fit properly on the back of the tank (this baby is huge!) what flow rate do you all suggest?

This is a FOWLR tank. I am thinking about 300gph... Reasonable?

That sounds OK. I don't use one anymore, but used Martin Moe's Marine Aquarium Reference (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0939960052/qid=1070467621/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_5/103-9664596-0699812?v=glance&s=books) to figure out the right flow rate and wattage.

Excellent. I currently have a Rio 1200 which is 295gph and should be a good match for the sterilyzer. No need to go buy another power head. :)

Now, I just need to find a couple suction cups to affix the return hose against the inside wall of the aquarium - I don't want it just sticking in there loosely.

If I have any complaint about this double helix sterilyzer it is that it should've come with more hardware: at least a few suction cups to position those hoses with.

The easiest, and most reliable, way to attach it is to make a simple U out of PVC pipe and elbows. Glue it up, attach the hose, secure the hose with zip ties, and hang it on the back of the tank. Voila, yer done =)
