The first question is this..

Could someone help me identify this snail?

It's a very small snail, about half the size of a pencil eraser.

And the second is, how the heck did it get into my tank?

I only noticed it AFTER my tetra started harassing it. I just recently bought 5 amano shrimp and didn't notice him in the bag. Maybe he came with my plants?

It is a bladder snail, and it came in on your plants. It is almost inevitable when having a planted aquarium to have these.

>_> I HATE them. lol If they didn't breed so prolifically I probably wouldn't mind.

I'm so glad someone asked about these! I found one of these in one of my tanks a while back- now there are 2. What's really odd is I don't have any live plants. Could it have been transferred from a lfs net? How big do they get?

Eggs or even the snails can come in in water yes and they don't really get big and don't breed a whole lot unless there is an abundance of food.

Thank you for the info- I don't mind the snails- they were free!

They'll do your aquarium good; however, they'll compete for food with other more aesthetically pleasing snails.

Also- they DO tend to propegate quickly (I'm not putting any food in my aquarium at the moment... I'm cycling and my bladder population seems to double every three or four days or so) If I had to guess there are probably about 60 of them in my aquarium at the moment... don't normally see that many at one time- but if I went over the plants and rocks with a fine toothed comb I'm sure I'd find 'em.
