So, I went to a store to get some food and was looking at their fish. I found this one in a 20 gallon with about 10 cichlids that were about an inch and a half. This one was hiding under a rock and had all her fins clamped and looked stressed out. I bought her to get her out of that cramped area and hoping to help her out (hoping it's a girl). She's now swimming around and doesn't seem agressive at all, yet at least. She's about 4 inches long. Hides when I come near the tank though, but guessing she'll get over her fear of me.

I've seen some shady lfs's do that, where they mix up dragon blood peacocks with red devils/midas and vise versa.

Well, I'm going to call them up and ask to bring it back tomorrow for a full refund. If they refuse then I'll turn into a total B on them and bash them all over CL for it, lol.

one of my LFS (the one I refuse to go to because they sell dyed fish) has a 100g tank in the front that is simply labeled "Cichlids"... it has everything from Mbuna, to oscars in it

totally appauling

Ok, just got off the phone with the fish store. She'll be going back in the morning. I would keep her but I don't have room anywhere for her and I also can't risk her killing my other fish. Do you think she'll be ok in my tank for a night? My Africans range in sizes of 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches and she's about 4 to 4 1/2 inches.

Well if she still isnt use to the tank I think it should be ok for the night if anything leave the lights on for the one night. Fish tend to mellow out and relax with lights off which may make her go on the prowl.

Why isnt she solo in a quaritine tank? Its always a good practice to have new fish in a quaritined enviroment until you know there healthy free from disease and parasites before adding them with your other prized fish.

Well glad there willing to take it back my old LFS here wouldnt take stuff back they have it labeled well they would but no refund lol

Yeah be careful on the impulse buys sometimes its better to research the fish before you buy it but it sounds like you learned a lesson.. And i feel your empathy i would too feel sorry for the poor little bundle of terror you bought hehehe cool well at least they will take her back..
