Hey everybody. I just had something interesting happen.
I just got home, around 12:45AM, and came in to my bedroom, where i keep my aquarium. I turned on my light, turned on my computer, then turned off the light. After signing in and waiting for my comp to load up, my green terror jumped out of the tank. I quickly put him back in, went for my test kit, and he jumped right back out!
I quickly covered the top, got my test kits, and tested the water. All my levels are where they should be:
ammonia: 0ppm
nitrite: 0ppm
PH: 7.0
I don't have a nitrate test kit, but I've been doing weekly water changes of about 30%. It's a 110gal, and the terror is between 7"-9".
The water seems to be fine, and the only time he's done this before was when I accidentally put a little ammonia rich water from a cycling tank into the filter to prime it. Is it just because of the light? I've also done this before, so I don't know why he'd jump out now. Any ideas? Thanks!

It may have just been spooked by the light or something. What is the tank temp? Just in case the heater is going hay wire.

The tank is at 74F. He didn't jump out while i was asleep, so I think he's fine now. Thanks!

you've got the tank covered now so that he won't be able to jump out? you don't want to come home to a crispy fish on the carpet........

Ive had that one happen to but with some goldfish when I was younger like 6yrs old looked and counted there would be one missing ide find it behind the tank all dried up stuuck to the carpet.

I have had fish disappear from time to time, found a few on the floor. They just tried for the great escape and failed. My Oscar and bala are the worst at banging the lid and scaring the cat!

ok, now i'm wondering why the quality of the water was 'bad'.
Because I was 6 and I didnt know nothing bout water quality all I knew was if it was cloudy or had food on the bottom I had to clean it. Dont pick on me ok I was a lil kid =(. I didnt know better back then I had books but none informed me bout cycling an aquarium. I did what i was told by my mom and that was it. Not like I could of surfed the net since computers werent out 19yrs ago. I got good water quality now so no worries BFM.
If u want make a time machine go back 22yrs when I got my first fish at 3yrs of age and teach me how to take care of a fish properly lol.

i wasn't pickin' on ya, just wondering. and computers were around that long ago, but i don't think the old apple green screen beasts of a 'pooter woulda been able to hook up to the ninternet as we know it today....lol.
I dont know I know we didnt own a computer till after my lil sis was born and that was in 94 and back then all the fish info was wrong according to some site my oscar was ok in my 40gal octagon. Then I read that the Jaguar cichlid only got 12" which I later found out wasnt true and I had already spent my money on the 55gal so couldnt upgrade. But yeah hey suprisingly my fish lived kinda long till they became lunch for my uncles Red Devil. Oh well
BFM just messin wit ya k lol

We have 2 Oscars, but started out with 3. About 2 wks ago we lost one. Couldn't find any body parts in the tank and looked all around the tank for it as there was a very small opening in the back on one side. We've sinced closed it and haven't lost anymore fish. I agree that closing the top is very important with jumpers.
