We have a fluval 305 canister filter on our 55 gallon tank. the filter itself seems to be working alright however there is no aearation comming out of it? we have up th air by using a bubble wand and a bubble disc thjing. but would really like to have the filter pumping out air as well. the impellor cover is broken and we are replacing it in the next couple days. does anyone know why its not pumping air?:help:

Are you saying that you believe that the filter is designed to inject air to the water passing through it?

I got a fresh water skimmer for my fluval 305 and it works great as well as pulling air into the filter itself. It is a little noisy because of this but not too bad. The filter is not designed to mix air into the water though.

Fluval Surface Skimmer

Designed to attach directly to your Fluval intake hose. Removes organic film on the water's surface and helps improve the oxygen/carbon dioxide

It's a closed system, which is why it won't pump out any air bubbles, maybe if you pull the primer thing all the way up it'll let some air in for a short while, but otherwise it wouldn't (only does after filter maintenance when some air is trapped inside). If you want some extra oxygen in your water point the outflow (somehow) up to the surface, so you get some surface agitation. People also stick the tube coming in from the airpump or a co2 source to the outflow so it disperses the airbubbles throughout the tank.

P.S. my only problem with fluvals is the really crap design of that impeller cover, stupid thing breaks way too easy.

You can also get a spray bar for the output, and mount it above the water, pointing down, so that it aerates the water that way.
