Well, here it is. As most of you know, my friend graciously gave me this tank and I thank him for it. :)

(Please excuse the lousy cell phone pics, I have no digital camera. Also, the white spots you see in the tank are just bubbles.)

When I first received the tank, it was COVERED in algae.. it was filthly. I used a 10% bleach solution to clean it up. I washed it twice, and let it fully dry to let the bleach evaporate.

It also came with dual Whisper 30-60 power filters that I MAY upgrade in the future when I get more money but as of now, they will have to do.
Also, "Eclipse Daylight" tubes were included, which i may upgrade if need be.

Then, I went to the store and picked up 2 cans of Krylon Satin black all purpose paint and painted the back of my tank. I painted the OUTSIDE of the tank, just as a sidenote. I loved how it turned out. :D

I have about 1.5inches of gravel at the moment. I may buy another couple pounds to get 2 full inches or so to hold my plants in place when I get them.

It is fully cycled as it sits right now. I have the API Master freshwater test kit. Best $30 ever spent, imo. :)

Please understand it is NOT finished yet. I will be ordering Malaysian driftwood, and plants within the next couple of days. And I will be adding a few caves for the Clown Loaches that I will be adding in the next couple of weeks.

At the moment, I have a small school of 5 black skirt tetras in there. Its awesome to watch them swim around together :)

If you have any driftwood for sale, and low light plants, please send me a PM. :)

Thanks. Comments and suggestions are welcome! Be nice though :D

This is just the start of my new fascination with this hobby, and a major upgrade from my 10g tank. :)

Nice friend to set you up with a tank. Sounds like some great ideas for the build as well. Definetly want to see some after pics when everyone is all moved in.

Yeah he's pretty awesome. I was thinking about giving him some money to compensate him and his mom for such a great deal.

As of yet, driftwood is on order. So Im waiting for that to arrive. And Im working with aquaticmagic (ebay seller) to build a custom package of plants for my tank. So thats pretty much it as of now.

Thanks! It should be fun. To get quality items costs some money so Im taking this project slowly. I want to buy nice things for it and make it look natural. :)

I will update this thread as I go along.

Thanks for all the support everyone :D

Oh, and any ideas as far as having the main fish be in my tank? I want some nice colorful ones.. you know? Something that swims in the mid level of tank will draw lots of attention :D

i would suggest boesami (spelling?) rainbows. my favourite lfs has a 60 gallon planted display tank with a number of them, all different colours. this tank also has Bristlenose plecos. it looks awesome.

another suggestion i have for you might be to have a darker substrate, as that would look soooo much nicer, would make the fish and plants 'pop', and fish are generally more comfortable with a darker 'ground' underneath them. oh, and it would look really good with your black background!
