I went and picked up a handsized rock today that was full of purple and green mushrooms. When I got it it looked a little buggy... man was I right. There are feather worms all over it. Some of them look like they are made out of tinsel (red, blue, pink). Then there are about 6 spots where there are tentacles coming out of the rock that are black and gray banded. There are usually two or three coming out of the hole.

There is also some evil looking monster living in the rock. I can see its face and its mouth and its little claws (looks like some sort of crab). I haven't seen any apaista or bubble algea. Any idea of what any fo this stuff is? I will try and get some pictures.

Well, mushrooms are just that.. feather dusters are just that.. tentacles coming out are micro brittle stars usually and are good cleaners, evil monster thing, you better hope it isn't a mantis shrimp or rock crab.

I agree, I would remove the rock, place it in a bucket, and slowly pour some Tap water into the crevice the crab is in to flush him out. You may have to do this a few times as they are stubburn and might not come out right away.

You dont want them in your tank. I battled crabs (8 to be exact) over 2 years until I got them out. That was 6 eaten fish, snails later.

Oh, I wanna see this.

Well... now ya'll got me scared. I will post some pics of the beasties. Let me know if I need to remove the offender.

On the first one you can see the red tube... there is something coming out of that

There is also some white film or gunk. Rock doesn't smell.

Second pic shows the tinsel stuff I was talking about. And just to the left of that is the evil little bugger.

THird you can see the banded tentacles

fourth is my new friend

fifth is an updated tank shot. A bit fancier than the previous pic... sorry.

Keep trying to get better pics.. one thing I learned about photography and this hobby is just keep taking as many pictures as possible of your target until your memory card is full. You will get 1 or 2 really good ones out of 100.

I would remove the rock and get the crab out. They will eat what they can catch, in the meantime they can go after corals, and snails.

Here was 2 of my crabs that terrorized my tank.

Can you not tell what it is from that picture? I put some tap water through it and something brushed against the underside of the rock. But I have no idea where it went.
