Future Aqua-scaping questions??

Hello,

I'm thinking in the future for when i rescape my tank of doing black sand in my 5 gallon betta tank.. questions

1. do bettas like this or mind this
2. will or how long will the tank be foggy even if i wash it goood
3. i have 4 golden apple snails, do they mind the change of gravel to sand?
4. when i do water changes will it get stirred up every-time and take time to settle?
 
1. He'll probably be ok with it.
2. A little / Got filter?
3. IDK, but I think people here have some in sand.
4. About the same as gravel.

Might not have been much help. But, couldn't not say something, sense no one else has yet.

I used to have some cheap (white)sand. And it acted pretty much the same as gravel when vacuming. IE settled, right back to the bottom.

1. I wouldn't imagine so. Might even better bring out colors.
2. Eh, can't remember but when I mess around in the tank it'll fog up a little for a day.
3. I have apple snails in both. My brigs don't seem to care, but my nerites don't really like the sand. They get turned over more easily and can't turn back over LOL Moved them back to the gravel and they're super.
4. Mine does, but I didn't wash it very well/at all and it settles down again rather quickly.
 
getting stirred/ resettling depends on the grit of the sand. the courser sand will not get stirred much, and will settle faster, where with really fine sand, you might end up with opaque water and it will take a lot longer to settle. To avoid any problems with this, you can slowly add the new water, with a syphon or some other method.

yea, as in. Would just go right back to the bottom. No fine particle fog hanging around.

All I really remember about the kind of sand it was. Was that I got it at Home Depot. And thinking it was the play sand. Just plain 'ol white stuff.

It all got siphoned(on purpose) out into the front yard, when I drained the 55 to change it to gravel.
 
Just get Pool Filter Sand it is heavy and wont cloud up. Besides it can't take more then 10 mins for you to wash enough sand to put in that small of a tank.
