Has anyone on this list noticed occansionally a irredescent shark will turn black and stay at about 8- 10"? While others will grow to 2' or more? Does any one have a clue as to why? Could it be a sexual difference with the males being small and females being very large?

Tank size has alot to do with it. Putting one in a 150gal tank *should* make it grow faster and bigger, putting one in a 30 will slow it's growth, theorhetically.
That said, they could still grow beyond specs in smaller tanks, it just depends on food intake water quality ect. ect. tank size is only one part of the equation.
I've seen bala sharks that are susposed to max out at 18" be almost 3 feet long at sheds aquarium (boy they look cool).
Too many variables, genetics may play a partial role.
If your wondering on a tank size, I would shoot for the median lenght at a minimum.

it sounds like you've got a black shark there, not any other kind. blacks do get around 2' normally, but if kept in crampt conditions stay a bit less.
