I've got me a python finally makes things a lot easier now, well still has even while I was prego. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get down into fine sand substrate without loosing it to suction. There's enough for the tank but any place that has sold the stuff don't have it any more since they clearanced it out and trying to save what I can. v.v"

you dont need to get into the sand .. just run the python over the top to pick up the stuff that settles there

Try using the valve that the python comes with to restrict the flow during vaccing and adjust appropriately. Dont forget to open it up wide before you fill. You could also turn down your water flow at the sink to decrease flow.

If the sand is too fine for even that, then I'm not sure other than to replace with larger grain size... Maybe, rubber band some nylon stocking material over the end of the tube?
