help please, zebra danios ill!

two days ago one of my zebra danios vanished,
i just imagined it was hiding in the plants


well, luckily i have found my zebra danio

the panic qnd worry came when a second one vanished so i instantly took 25% of the water out,

and then something came into my head, no idea how....
i have....... had an artificial moss ball in my tank near the bubble pump and filter,

inside of this i found two zebra danios

but they have sort of turned black on the upper part of their body and it looks as though scales have been damage

is it best to try and treat them with something like mellafix or should i just put them out of their misery??

please let me know as soon as possible guys
 
How are they behaving? They're tough fish and should recover from a bit of skin damage with lots of water changes.
 
I have bought some melafix and have put them in a hatchery to keep the other fish from taking advantage of their weekened selves
 
Is this a new setup? What size tank, and what kind of other fish are in it? Describe your setup and normal maintenance in detail.
 
i had a zebra do the same thing looked in the tank missing a fish looked high and low an then i looked behind the fliter and somehow managed to get stuck so i released him he was missing a few scales and seemed a bit confused his ok now but he did it again an i had to free him i think his learned his lesson and his much better now and i named him lucky !!
