Hi
I'n new to the forum, and have started keeping fish again after about a 2 year break.
I currently have two working tanks.
My 70l tank: 2 Yo yo loaches, 2 large tiger barbs, 1 golden sucking loach, 1 female swordtail, 1 male platy, 2 female platies, 4 zebra danios, 1 as yet unidentified tetra. Trumpet snails, round snails and the other ones (have grown them quite large!)
My 20l tank: 11 baby platies, 1 female platy with a missing side fin (healthy!), 3 peppered corys
I have only had the 20l tank for about a week. My friends are re decorating their house and having building work done, so they had nowhere to put the tank - this tank also had (you might need to sit down!) - the sucking loach and tiger barbs in it! The sucking loach is around 8cm long, so not even full size! He's a good specimen, but was too big for the tank. I could describe the barbs as 50p size with tails, voracious feeders and chasers. Thus, the poor old tetra has a few swimming problems, and I haven't found out what he is yet. They have settled in nicely into my 70l tank. I added the yo yo loaches today as the tank has been taken over by trumpet snails. Except I didn't know barbs liked eating snails too, and seem to have already cleaned up!
The sucking loach is enjoying his new perching places, and does not seem yet to be interested in other fish as food, he's happy scraping the algae off the decor and posing on the bogwood.
I've had this tank for about a year now, although haven't 'upgraded' from my starter platies. There was a pair of swordtails, but I lost the male fairly early on. The male platy has certainly been kept busy, as I have babies from all three females. The babies were being born and surviving well in the tank without being separated, so I had around 20 at the beginning of the week. I took out the bigger ones and out them in the smaller tank, let the barbs do their thing and fished out the remaining ones the next day. I was getting far too many babies, I can just about manage the 11 I've got left.
I also had a remaining peppered cory, who wasn't getting on very well on his own, and one of the female platies had mysteriously lost a fin - no other injuries or signs of disease, and after a day of swimming around in circles, she managed to work out a way of swimming almost normally. The other fish were bothering her as she wasn't as good at swimming, so she and her babies and their catfish friend have gone into the 20l tank. The babies look good in it, and are enjoying their new space. Today, I added 2 small peppered corys and my single remaining one is eating better already.
Oh well, that's the story of my fish, which was longer than expected! So thanks for reading!
