How do I determine the sex of my snooks? I have one that is a vibrant yellow and is starting to get red hues, and the other is a lighter yellow almost a silver looking color. The silverish one is the larger of the two and they were the same size when I got them.

I believe there is no visible way to sex snooks but males usually grow larger.

The males are usually more bulky and have darker colors of red.

If they were a pair raised together normally the male grows a little quicker than the female, but then again it can also be two males with the more dominant one outgrowing the other. Males tend to have more outlined "pearly" scales over their body while females develop a vertical barring along their dorsal as they mature.

in order to sex the snook...
you have to caress and rub them ever so gently-- they will eventually get used to you and just let it happen ;-)
