so i heard some cichlid food that says its good for coloring is bad because of hormones that they can turn all your fish male, does anyone know of this and if so how good is hikari cichlid gold cichlid pellets?

I use to use Hikari Bio-Gold for my managua and he showed some amazing colors I currently feed my loisellei Hikari Gold Mini since there babies and they show some very nice hues which i wish my camera would pic up.

Never heard of horomones changing the sex in fish from the diet. Some species of fish have the ability to change sex but not all some its impossible.

I think he's talking about hormone fed fish you sometimes see at the store (a juvie with unusually bright colors and long fins).

None of the commercially available fish foods are hormoned (at least not the popular ones), with a hormoned fish it's not unusual for a female cichlid to take on a coloration of a male (think haps and peacocks mostly) when ungoing the hormone cycle, then once you buy them the females slowly lose their color and go back to the regular drabby brown/silver.

i've also never heard of pellet food having hormones in it. i feed the NLS cichlid pellets to all my fish, on a rotating basis with other foods.

this was on a video i watched from a marine biologist and i think its primarily off brands who have the bad stuff. its coming from an 36 year expert in freshwater but he didnt give any examples just said that some food thats claims to be miracle at coloring has certain hormones that change there sex to male. i figured that hikari is a good brand because this other marine biologist that owns the lfs swears by it. i always use the good stuff even if it cost me more. just curious if anyone else heard of this, thanks.
