Hello Fish lovers. Please help.
My last aquarium leaked from the bottom seam. The replacement looks like it may do the same if I don't do something to modify the stand. Manufacturer is Perfecto. Here are the details:
The replacement Perfecto stand is far from perfect. There are basically 6 engineered contact points (four corners and 2 center - front/back) to support the aquarium. The rest (majority) of the glass is therefore "floating" in mid air as it is not touching the stand. This is a matching Perfecto stand and aquarium. The problem is that the front center contact point is actually 1/16 of an inch too short, and the other contact points are not very smooth/level. Needless to say, this scares the heck out of me as it means the front of the aquarium will not be supported in the center which will most likely cause a lot of extra stress on the silicone along the entire front length of the aquarium. Replacement of the stand is unfortunately not a real option for me. Long story.
I can glue a 1/16 inch piece of wood to the front center support and thus solve that issue, but I was thinking the addition of some padding to level out all the imperfections would also be wise. The problem is, I don't know what is the best kind of material to use. I have a ton of carpet padding. What do you think about using carpet padding for this? If you have a better idea, I'm all ears.
Thank a million!!!
