Does anyone know what the smallest peaceful cichlids are. I'm looking for something to put into a 10g tank. Are shell dwellers small enough?

Shell dwellers are small cichlids that would work well in a 10g but I wouldn't call them peaceful :p They are quite feisty and will attack anything that comes close to their shells.

A pair or trio(depending on what species) would work well in a 10g. I have a pair of L.ocellatus in my 10g that are doing great and breeding every 2 weeks. They aren't aggresive to eachother anymore. I had 4(3f/1m) in the tnak befor eand the other 2 females were constantly picked on.But now that they are gone the male and female don't fight.

But for a more peaceful cichilid you could go with dwarfs. A single ram or apisto would do well in a 10g, I wouldn't suggest more then 1 as i have a pair of rams in a 15g and the male is always chasing the female. I don't think a 10g gives enough room for hte female to hide from the male.

If you watch fish at the pet store and can pick out two rams that have already formed a pair, then they will be fine in a 10g. Even then, I think any male and female will be okay in a 10g together.
