What's normal behavior for my violet goby? I just got one as a gift and don't know barely a thing about it. For instance, is it normal for it to keep going up to the surface and poking it's head out of the water like it does probably every 30 seconds to 1 minute? And, what should I do if it's not eating anythng?

Welcome to Aquaria Central. We will need a bit more info from you like what size tank, tankmates, how long it has been set up etc, water conditions etc. The going to the top is not normal, they should stay on the ground pretty much at all times. It sounds like there might be a lack of oxygen or it is not in brackish water, or there are many other things that could be the problem. Try feeding it live brine shrimp if it is not eating. That should get him to eat. Anyway, hope this helps.

These are definately BW fish. Mine grew to 18" & loved live tubifex/blackworms & algae wafers.
