Hopefully soon, I plan on getting a 30g breeder... or at the very least a 29g, (30 breeder would be better because of footprint though). I am going to divide the tank and have my J. transcriptus on one side in a rift and have my kribs on the other side. So, roughly, each will have 15gal (but more space than a 15g, hopefully). Anyway, my question is, how many more, if any julies can I have on the one side?

Thanks.

1 julie is enough. They're very active fish, constantly cruising through rocks and such. I'm assuming a 30 breeder is your standard 36" long? Another problem is the compatibility of the two species. Kribs like soft acidic water and julies love super hard alkaline water. If you bought the kribs from a superstore petshop than they are probably acclimated to conditions they normally wouldn't be, so I'd go for the higher pH than trying to adjust to them. 8.0 pH would be best, but any higher or any lower and you could have problems. Perhaps a better choice would be a jewel cichlid (Hemichromis sp.). They like water conditions similar to kribs.

Actually, kribs can do well in water from 6-8 pH and from soft to medium hard water.

30 breeders are designed to have larger footprints than standard tanks. They are short but wide and fairly long. Their dimensions are 30''x18''x13'' (LxWxH).

However, I think my kribs are about ready to breed in my 38, so they may just stay where they are and I'll turn the 30 into a complete rift.

You could have a pair of julis and another pair of small Tanganyikans for the other side. Just have 2 rock piles and it should work out well. Of course it would depend on the other species.

I read on amateur(sp?)cichlids that A. compressiceps goes well with them, what do you guys thinks. Could you give me a list of good tankmates for them, I would like them to get not much larger than 4 inches.

Plus, I already have one juli, how many others would I need to buy to get a pair?

Just one 1+1=2 !:p

JK, sorry I couldn't resist! I would get 4, or three more in your case, You could go with 5 more but you usually get one pair out of 4. I have kept A. Calvus, N. leluepi, X. ochrogenys, N. multifasciatus, and C. leptosoma with transcriptus.

Okay, I'll look those up. Thanks deb :)
