Hi i have a well established cichlid tank, been up and running for years.
to my shock ijust found that i have ick and some of my fish have stopped eating and are behaving oddly.
I added the rid Ich last night but have no more, what i do have is Jungle brand fungus Eliminator says it takes care of:
"cotton Fungus" columnaris
"red sores" furunculosis
"grey skin" costiasis
"fish bloat" dropsy
fin and fish rot.
Problem i have is i am snowed in and can't get out (not that any place would be open anyway).
Can i use this?

I wouldn't use it because it treats fungus not parasites. It probably wouldn't be very effective. I would just raise the temp. of the tank to 82F 2 degrees at a time and do water changes with thorough gravel vacs. Just until you can get out to get some Ick meds. Hold the temperature at 82F for two weeks and then lower it down to where it was before 2 degrees at a time. Continue with the water changes and gravel vacs. throughout treatment to get rid of the cysts.

I would treat the tank with salt. Ordinary table salt is fine. 2 tsp/gal...raise the temp to 80-84F and bump up the aeration. Daily gravel vacuuming and water changes would be very helpful, as well.

Agreed With Slappy, Temp does two things. #1. it accellerates the life cycle to get the ich off your fish and through it's vulnerable life cycle sooner. At temps above 86*F it will kill ich. so elevated temps need to be above 86* unless accompanied by other treatment. Salt is fatal to ich anywhere above about 5 ppm so a good dose of salt and elevated temps for a couple of weeks will kill it off for good in your tank. Gravel vaccuming helps with removal of the parasites during the reproductive stage but is not a surefire way to eliminate all ich from the tank.
