One of my customers wants to rehome a Leopard Tortoise. He doesn't want the shop to have it as he wants to know it's going to a good home (plus, we don't have the facilities for a tortoise). In return he only wants a token payment and believe me it is just a token!!!!

I've always wanted one. I have the space but not the knowledge. I have 6 weeks to read up and I'm looking for any relevant info from anyone who's kept them (personal experience is always better than book read in my opinion:))

Can anyone help??

I will be doing research but like I said, I prefer the personal experiences:)

I have kept them, they are great personable tortoises. Where do you live? What kind of climate? I can give you tips on both indoor and outdoor set ups, and also diet/nutrition info (my specialty.)

Please check out the link in my sig... Kyryah's Tortoise Network.

You might regret saying that kyryah, I will now inundate you with PM's;)

I live in the UK, so at the moment he'll be alright outside as it's roasting at the moment. In the winter he'll have the conservatory which is heated plus I'll put in some lamps.

I've just phoned the guy who currently owns him and he is happy with the research that I've done and the fact i've already checked out a local vet that knows his tortoises. So much so, he is looking to deliver him in the next few weeks, whereas originally we were thinking nearer 6 weeks. The only reason he is parting with the tortoise is because his daughter bought him a boxer pup and the two don't mix!!!

Oh yeah, the tortoise is called "Dave"!!!

I've now saved your website to my favourites kyryah so will be frequenting that over the next few weeks!!!

Guess who turned up early!!! Dave is now called Horatio. I have since discovered that he has been raised on the totally wrong diet of lettuce and fruit:eek3: hence the pyramiding (at least that seems to be what all my research is telling me!! I am now trying to get him on to a grass and weed diet which is going to take me some time.

He is approx 9" long, 6" wide, 5" high and weighs 1.94kg. He is about 4 years old. I am working on some plans to build a tortoise table and he basically now owns my conservatory!!!

Awesome Tort! He looks in good shape but yeah, fruit is something that should only be given as a treat. Sounds like you'll be giving him a more natural, healthy diet.

What a cutie :)

Something else you should know about pyramiding - it isn't caused by poor diet alone. Humidity is a factor. A lot of people think that because these guys come from arid areas, water and humidity is not important. That is very wrong.

Rather than type it all out, I am gonna be lazy and give you links, lol.

The creation of a humid hide is going to be very beneficial for Horatio.
