Just bought the 9-watt version of the Green Killing Machine at PetSmart. I didn't have green water, but hoped it would help with the cyano. Not sure if it has helped with the cyano, as I have also been doing massive water changes, scrubbing and gravel vacuuming, but the side-effect I did not anticipate was the reduction of the cyano smell. Worth it just for that.

I used UV to battle cyano too. It wasn't a heavy infestation, not too smelly. I think, fingers crossed, that it's gone after a couple months of UV. I got the 24 watt GKM to help a chronic columnaris problem too. Good luck!

Cyano is an easy fix. Maracyn (arithromycin) for a week and then a water change. I went on vacation and when I got back I had blue/green slime all over my substrate and hardscape. I tried everything to no avail, until I dosed the arithromycin. Haven't seen it since.

Bacterias are what causes odors. UV kills bacteria and so eliminates some odors.
