I am working on my patio pond. I still have work to do, I am going to pile more rocks around it to cover the sides of the liner and add some stability. I need a new filter pump, the one I had died so I am using a smaller one for now so that my filtration was not a total loss. There are not fish yet, so it is working fine. I also need to get the lights hung over it, as it does not get any natural sunlight.

I also decided to take the cement tub and turn it into a planter for some marginal plants. I may add more smaller pots around the front in the future, I have some window boxes that could be used too.

I have guppy grass, red foot floater, water lettuce, anacharis, pennywort and lilies, and a cattail and two arrowhead plants.

What do you think so far?

IMO you should probably get bricks of some sort to build an enclosure around the tub. If that is one of the preformed ponds I am afraid that you might be looking at a collapse somewhere down the line.

The rocks should be enough once I get all of them piled up there, I am putting more around it than you think, lol. I have used one of these for years to keep turtles in above ground and never had a collapse. The end of the pond with the shallower shelves are already blocked up with bricks.

I am hoping to start working on the cement tub tomorrow. I have decided to make it into a bog type overflow, with water going in one end and out the other. I will make a false bottom out of egg crate and pvc.

Yup, probably a school of minnows and a couple of fanttails, not too many because I will have to overwinter them.

wow! that great! im excited to see what it will look like with all the rocks piled up! i love rock design

I didn't mean to criticize, we had one of ours bend in the middle and spill almost all the water out. But I think one of the dogs or maybe a racoon helped it along.

Neat! I love all the plants! Makes me want to add another to my pond. I can't wait to see finished pics.

Where do you get those pretty rocks?

One of the benefits of living in MI, lol, they are all over :) Being a farm girl more or less I can get them out of the farmer's rock piles for nothing. Otherwise they charge a premium for the darn things :D
