Can anyone familiar with Amano shrimp tell me why the underbelly (gotta learn invert terms!) of one of my females is a yucky shade of moss green? I expected to see eggs, but this looks weird!!!

can you get a pic? They carry their eggs in their swimerettes with are under the back 1/3 of their abdomen. The eggs are a green color, like mossy almost. You will see her turning them frequently.

I could try for the picture but she's not out front much. What do you mean by turning them? When I watch her it looks like the whole underbelly is doing this rippling effect thing....like a wave.

Yes, they carry a bunch of oblong eggs which they "fan" constantly.
here is an image from the web(from theshrimpfarm.com), i jsut found one berried in my tank too:

They turn them constantly, i assume like egg tumbling for fish, lol. They will hatch into larvae, but the larvae require brackish conditions to develop into shrimp. Here is a blog about it: http://www.theshrimpfarm.com/blog/archives/106

Took pics. The macro feature on the camera explains everything. Posting them in the photo section so everyone else can see them too. Definitely weird! LOL!

Rach have you noticed the males swimming around frantically for hours on end? When I saw them do that over the weekend I just about freaked out thinking something was wrong with my water quality, but it had only been 2 days since a 75% water change. Silly boys were looking for the girl sending signals!
