I have 6 discus all eat like pigs doing great raised and grown out in a bare tank with every other day 50% wc..........I put them in my planted 150 and they darkened up dramtically, so i figured it was the co2......I cut the co2 completely waited a few days still nothing......they were eating the entire time in the tank tho it was just a darkening issue..... Its about 3wpg on the tank can it be a light issue? maybe they just are used to a bare tank and 2 weeks wasnt enough to adjust? ......... they are back in their bare grow out and im wondering what to do so i can get them in the planted 150 and get 6 more quarter size discus to grow out in my bare tank.......any suggestions? btw my water perams are perfect and was doing every other day WC in the planted also while they were in there :help:

co2 changes ph so take that into consideration, other than that it could be that they just were not comfortable in the tank yet, if they are still eating well i wouldnt worry too much unless they are isolating themselves at the back of the tank or in the corners or behind plants

also discus are believed to darken and lighten due to their surroundings so being around plants which are darker than a white or blue background may cause them to try to blend with their surroundings
also what color substrate are they in

Dont keep moving them, leave them in the planted tank if that is to be their final home. Mine change colors dramaticly, within minutes sometimes, an they are healthy and happy, color change seems to be a natural defense to help them blend into thier surroundings, and if they were raised in a tank with no plants, or substrate, then they might be just getting used to blending in.

You will really stress them out if you keep moving them around. My discus have been in my 125 for about 2 years, and they still try to hide, and darken up nearly every day..

I went from black plant gravel and painted black back glass on my 180 to sand and light tan background. The same fish look 100% different!!!!! They darken up when they are in dark surroundings. I learned about this from these forums and thats what motivated me to change my tank in the first place. SHort of changing your planted tank's set up. I am not sure you can do anything about it?
