Have a red and a red tiger Oscar about a year and a half old. Both @ 12 " in a 125g tank with a 12" bullhead cat and a 7" green terror. Red Oscar was always the aggressor and the red tiger was passive. About two months ago the red tiger turned evil and almost killed the red and generally started behaving like a real jerk. About a month ago eggs were spawned on top of the cat's hide and the red tiger never left their side. I put some slate on the bottom a week ago and the red tiger again started to hammer on the red. Eggs again were spawned last night on the flat slate and the red tiger stays right with them but continues to fight with the red. My questions:
Can it be assumed the red tiger is the female because she won't leave the eggs?
Can it also be assumed the red is a male or will a female spawn without a male present?
Any insight into Oscar behavior and mating rituals appreciated.
Thanks.
And if your in New England and are interested in two mature Oscars and a bullhead cat shoot me a PM.
