I am totally new to using live plants in my aquarium but I have this green stuff growing on the leaves of my plants. I am assuming it is algae. How can I get rid of this? I feel like it is killing my plants.:yuck:

I don't really have a lighting schedule (do I need to set up a timer?) But it is usually on at least 12 hours a day.

Tank is a 29 gal and I am using a liquid fert. once a week and no CO2. I am using the light that came with the tank, it is 20 watts.

Thanks for the help.

what time do you turn the lights on and off?

that light shouldnt be enough for algae unless it is on for 14hours a day.

but to be sure, what kind of light do you have?

It is a flourescent bulb. Just the one that came with the tank.

It is on for longer than 14 hours. So if I cut the time the light is on, the algae won't be such a problem?

i would cut back to 8-10 hours a day and a timer is gonna be a huge help for that. are you near any windows?
what do you dose for ferts? are you testing for nitrates and phosphates? what are your levels?
can you take pics?
