View Full Version : Good ground cover plants?
I was just looking into some ground cover plants for my aquariums. I was wondering what some of the seasoned pro's here at AC would suggest for a low tec/low tight setups? My 55 has only 30 watt, the 29g has 17 watt and the 125 has 160 watt. Will soon be dosing with flourish and have root tabs. The substrate is plain gravel in the two smaller tanks and the 125 will have silica sand as soon as I get time to change it. Well I think that about covers it so thank you in advance.
Peace,
Caleb
all the light levels in your tanks are extremely low except the 125g.. Dont think you can get good "ground cover" you will have plants and they may seem healthy.. but they wont spread. So for smaller tanks i would try dwarf clover.. for the 125g try hairgrass or dwarf sag.

I just planted a portion of Cryptocoryne lutea in my 72, have heard people having good luck with that in a lower tech setup. I have potting soil capped with play sand. Hopefully I can let you know if it takes off here soon. Seems to be compairable to dwarf sag. Someone with more plant knowledge than me can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong lol.

Lutea did okay in my lowtech setup. It grew, but its growth was kind of slow. When I upgraded my lighting it took off.
Thanks for the input everyone.
I really need to upgrade my lighting. If only there was a cheep way to come up with 350 whats of light with out those bulky t-12s. Oh well, it will happen eventually, cheep or not.
I have some dwarf sagitaria right now and it's staying alive, not really spreading any yet though. Probably wont until I upgrade lighting.

You can get a little creative and try a moss carpet.
