Aloha!

I used tp keep my betta in my 2.5 gallon tank... which is about 11"H x 8"W x 5"D. He died, and I was wondering if there is any other possible ways I could use this tank? I don't have any lighting element for plants and I don't have a water filter... so any ideas?

Thanks!

get a filter, like a AQUACLEAR Mini. You can raise fry in it or use it as a Q-tank. But if you have no larger tank, try getting a betta again, but allow the filter to run a few days first. Plus all the usual maintenence.

I am familiar with the ALL-GLASS 5.5 gallon tank that is the same proportions as a 10 gallon leader tank, but not a TALL one. I am imagining a vase from your given dimensions ???

If you want a really tiny HOB, there is something called the Azoo Palm filter. Its got 16GPH and goes for around 7 bucks.

You could probably get a snail or an ADF or a Betta. Not many fish like the dimensions of a tank that small to begin with, as you know, let alone a "tall" that provides even less horizontal space.

Aquaclear Mini is a very common and easy to find hang on back power filter for tanks 10/20 gallons or less. But there are even smaller filters like the AZOO mentioned above. Lee's makes a small filter too. There are filters for bowls that can maybe handle on fish. Don't get rid of it. If you don't get another fish, try a lizard.!

..or a tarantula.

A 2.5 high would be a cruel tank for a lizard or a tarantula... they like their room, too. Possibly even more than a fish, since a fish can go up and down, and the lizard or tarantula is restricted to the bottom's surface area. It would be like sitting in one place all the time for them.

I didn't think of that, Sorry lizards and other creatures. You could use it as a flower vase.

Ok there are many types of filters you can use. Here are 2 types I would recommend for this small tank.
These are all submersable power filters.
Duetto Multi Filter 50 (Aq. Systems)
Duetto Mini Internal Power Filter (Aq. Systems)
Whisper Internal Micro Filter (Tetra)
Fluval 1 Plus Internal Filter 50GPH (Hagen)
Microclean 304 Internal Filter (Zoo-Med

Or you can try these air pump driven filters.
Small World Filter (Penn Plax)
Or any sponge filter will work.

Now if you want to try something different there are other small fish you can try in this tank. The best one is Heterandria Formosa the least killiefish. I keep atleast a small colony of 8 in my 2.5 and more keep on popping up. I use the Whisper filter on one and on the other I have the small World filter.

Rather then spend a lot of money trying to fix up the small tank, why don't you spend the money to buy a new, bigger tank? It might cost a little more at first, but will pay off in the long run because you get more enjoyment when you can have more fish. Or at least I would get more enjoyment out of more fish.

Actually, tarantulas don't move around much at all...in the wild, they spend a good portion of their lives resting motionless inside a burrow or hole. They only come out to hunt or mate. If I had a tarantula, I would definitely let it out to 'crawl' around from time to time..so I'm sure they would be fine. Though I seriously doubt Hawaii_Fantails plans on getting one.

What about a tank full of freshwater shrimp like ghost shrimp. Add a java fern and it could be kind of cool to watch. You wouldn't really need a filter, just do water changes a couple of times a week.

actually you could kep a lizard or a tree frog or something in there if you put some branches that they could climb so they could take advantage of the heigth of your tank.

Why spend money on an Aquaclear filter when the filter alone could buy you a 10 gallon or more!

...I agree, I would get a larger tank and get rid of this "vase". :o
