I got a nice piece of christmas favia over the weekend and really like it. Unfortunately my wife left the lights on the tank for 4 hours longer and now it doesn't look as nice as it did before (I could be imagining this). It does not fill out like other favia. Is that normal?

Also I can see a bit of white (three very small spots). The red and green remains very vibrant... but there are a couple of areas I am worried about. COudl this just be gettin' used to the new tank and MH lighting? your help is appreciated

It is probably just adjusting give it some time. When I had that piece in an area with lower light it started getting much lighter in color. If it continues to lighten up, try to get it a little more direct light. I know you have it set on the rocks so you can see the coral better, but it does look like it is sitting at an angle where it could not be getting max light. Dont worry it wont die as I have had this piece for a very long time.

I agree... give it some time to adjust. You may want to start it out lower in the tank (if it's not in the lower portion of the tank already).

Timers -- They are your friend and one of the least inexpensive ways to automate part of any tank. :)

We are getting a timer today. lol. She actually felt really bad especially when I mentioned that it would take me hours to clean the algae. But I could have reminded her.

I was afraid that it was in shock because it was getting too much light from the halides. This morning it looks a bit fuller so that is a good sign. I will play with the angle and see if I can't get it a little more light. On the upside, everything else is looking great.

The raspberry chalice really puffs up when the lights go out. It is pretty amazing to see.
