I was wondering if these two things are worth my money. I don't always do water changes frequently enough or on time. Recently, during the last water change, I was really digging through the substrate and the fish were breathing rapidly and my cories were leaning to one side. I added Prime but it didn't make a difference in their behavoir. But when I added API Ammo-Lock and Tetra EasyBalance Biological Water Conditioner (which I swiped from my dad's aquarium supplies), it completely stopped.

So... Is it worth buying these two for myself? And the Easy Balance says you can do less frequent water changes when you use it. Is that true? http://www.tetra-fish.com/sites/tetrafish/catalog/productdetail.aspx?id=1276&cid=74

I gave one of my kids some easy balance for his aquarium and it was worthwhile. I personally don't use anything in mine. I am far more aggressive in my maintenance than he is. If I see or suspect anything not quite right I immediately perform a w/c and then monitor it more closely. Using chemicals in 20 tanks is a bit costly when I can achieve the same thing through aggressive maintenance.

Only you can decide if it's worthwhile in your application.

it's possible that you dug up some ammonia pockets that were building up in your substrate. i try to take it easy using chemicals in my tank (just prime). if everything is ok now i would just leave it and keep up on your water changes

Easy Balance says...

"Phosphate Removing Effect – In a standard aquarium (30gal) the phosphate concentration is reduced to zero during most of the 6-month period."

You have plants. So like the 7.0(other thread), it'll be a nope.

I'd go with the adding crushed coral, as mentioned in the other thread.

Okay. And yeah, I think you're right about the ammonia pockets b/c my ammonia test came back a little high.
