What are your thoughts on this as a planted aquarium substrate?

Hm. I couldn't tell you, absorbing nutrients from the water column and transferring them to the root system? Seems like another one of those 'miracle' aquarium products that don't work. I wish there were some reviews on the site.
I searched Google for other sites that sell it and none of the others have the 'remove nutrients from the pond water' quality listed. Except one, and that one looked kinda shady to me.

That product is made for outdoor ponds, not for fishtanks. The size of the bag is 1/2 the size of a small bag of eco-complete. I think eco-complete is a reasonable price in the USA. And it is known to be an excellent product.
I'd go with the eco-complete or one of the other planted tank substrates such as Amazonia that are a known quantity.
