I was doing some research for my dad and this is what i got:

http://freshaquarium.about.com/library/profiles/blfw0031.htm
says 8-10 years

http://library.kcc.hawaii.edu/external/ctsa/publications/tinfoil.pdf
10 years and longer- scientific research paper

http://www.****************/catalog_pages/cyprinids/barb_tinfoil.htm
Says they live several years

Those are the only 3 websites I can find that gives life spans of tinfoils barbs. The average being 10 years is old age for this fish. Im looking at Fishbase, but like most websites, does not list lifespans...

for those of you that disagree with this..please provide documented proof before replying

why would you start an entire thread when you have little to no documentation yourself?

whats the point of this thread?

This is to anyone reading this thread:

In many cases, many threads, there were discussions on how old does tinfoil barbs get. I have demonstrated 3 links stating an average of 10 years. So that is the answer of how old do Tinfoil barbs get.
A few people have doubted me and now I provided a few answers,....

As Long as we provide a GREAT environment, we can EXTEND the natural life span indefinantly of any fish (within reason of course :) )

well, every one of the marine fish ones are wrong...

I have a book right here that says this

in public aquariums ----- what this site lists

lionfish 15+ years ----- 11-16
triggers 20+ years ----- 6-10
boxfish (doesnt list them) ----- 6-12
damsels 20+ years ----- 5-10
butterflys 28+ years ----- 5-12
