usually you see people using fiji live rock in thier home aquarium. Is it ok to use another type(i think fiji live rock is ugly)?

Yep. The aquacultured stuff out of Florida is very popular.

Depends on your pocketbook, taste and plans. I like the aquacultured stuff because it has so much life on it. Plus there's no risk that it's been ripped off a reef. Others like the shapes of the various Pacific rocks.
With regard to biological filtration, they all seem to work.
