No offence, but a petition is not going to cause them to change the law.
Yes, i personaly think that a 17 year old should be tried as an adult, but, i cant see this making "any" difference..

It is the judge's decision whether or not to try as an adult. The petition is about swaying the judge's opinion, not about changing the law.
But I do agree that there is very little that internet petitions can actually do. Signatures of constituents of the state where the crime was committed may carry weight, but otherwise it is probably just a waste of time.
That said, I did sign, just in case. I feel that an act like this is unconscionable at any age. The fact that the girl laughed when questioned by police, stating "I don't like cats" shows a deep and disturbing psychosis and a total lack of regard for living things. What if she didn't like little kids? She needs to be off the street, for good.
