Hi, let's try this again seeing as nobody responded in the plant forum! I have several Java plants which I tried attaching to this artificial vine thing with cotton thread. This worked for a few days but then I found the plants had fallen off. Don't know why, unless my pleco likes cotton thread!
Also, I have some riccia bought at the local fish club. I was thinking about wrapping the riccia around the vine, and wood pieces I have, using hairnet. Do I then secure that with cotton thread?
I got some Java moss at the same time, so I'm hoping it will all look very foresty when I'm done.
Advice please?
I have no plant friendly substrate by the way, just sand.

Cotton thread is the ideal material. As far as your pleco goes, he might be more interested in the wood than what's attached to it. I would suggest a second piece that is large enough to catch his eye for rasping on. I keep 2 pieces in my tank and my plec never bothers the small one. He seems to think bigger is better.

The reason for cotton thread is that by the time it rots your plants should have rooted to the wood.

I prefer to use either waxed dental floss or black nylon wire ties. neither rots nor disolves and must be cut off down the road. They always work :-)

best to sue is the black plastic ties they use in electronics. you know, those things used to tie up the power cord of that radio or clock you just bought at best buy? string those together and use them. i have been doing it for years and no long-term problems with the ties underwater. the plastic holds up great and is re-usable.
