What kind of cichlid are you talking about? Firemouth? or are you talking about like a fire eel or sumthing, never heard of a firehead.

is your going on about firemouths (cichlids) they go really slow best to keep them on their own i have mine in my 1 small pleco 4 small pangasius and 4 small firemouths and 4 silverdollars
silver dollars will eat all your plants and if you have a male and female firemouth they will breed or should as each pair ived had (3) have bred

Firemouths can grow quite fast when given a lot of space. Otherwise the speed is quite average just like most cichlids.
You are looking at a six inch (roughly) cichlid when grown.
I have kept firemouths with the following with no problems.
Keep in mind that tank size will mater for keeping it with the more aggressive species.
rainbow cichlids
sajicas
severums
festivums
jack dempseys
texas
paratilapia bleekeri
blue acaras
red pendex
synspilum
jewels
uro
convicts
A.spilurus
Couple of others that I can't think of right now
Some non cichlids
Barbs (rosey, clown, tiger, spanner, arulius, gold)
purple spot goby
various plecos
red tail shark
pictus cat
siamesensis
hoplo cat
Synodontis notiatus
The tanks sizes varied 33, 45, 50, 77, 112
Everyone worked out fine with the exception of my 8 3/4 male festivum kicking the crap out of one firemouth after the firemouth tried to pick a fight with it. He learned real quick. He survived the bombardment the festivum gave it but it took a couple of weeks in the hospital tank.
They aren't really aggressive about a five out of ten on the cichlid scale IMO.
