My new little guy just loves blood worms. Prob is that is all he'll eat. I've tried shrimp pellets, flakes, freeze dried brine, and Hikari Cichlid Gold pellets. He ignores all except the blood worms.

He's only been in the tank a couple days and he's about 3 inches.

Should I hold back the blood worms for awhile and hope he gets hungry enough to try other foods? Any ideas for another food to try?

Well I got him to eat some frozen brine shrimp. He still won't touch anything else.

i'd try not feeding him for a day, and see if he's hungry enough to eat whatever you offer afterwards. being as he is juvenile i wouldn't go more than one day without feeding.

have you tried mysis shrimp? my cichlids love them!

very cute lil JD btw.

You can try starving your fish. It sounds cruel but cichilds can go weeks to months without eating food and barely show any signs of it. I would definitely make sure your fish is on some type of a high quality pellet. It may take a little bit but your fish will cave in eventually.

That was my thought.....got to keep trying the pellets, try soaking the pellets in garlic juice.

OK I'll be stubborn too and won't feed him anything but pellets for two days. I'll then try the garlic juice idea. I really don't want to go more than that, but may have to. He can't live on frozen forever. Thanks.

Forgot to mention that I called the LFS where I got him and it seems they fed him nothing but bloodworm by the sound of it. :irked:

Well I tried the flakes and pellets mixed with blood worm juice and some with garlic juice. This guy ignores all! :( I plan on withholding blood worms for at least the next 48 hours... maybe longer. I'll keep trying with the garlic and bw juice.

While reading about finicky discus someone mentioned that a young fish's growth could be stunted if they don't eat for a long time. What a 'long time' is I'm not sure. Any opinions on that?
