im making a build thread and building a canopy and stand kinda thing for my 2 1/2 gallon glass tank. im wondering what your guys stock ideas would be

im thinking---
Betta with some small ramshore snails, and lots of java moss, or

Red cherry shrimp with a butt load of java moss and some small snails?

any other ideas are welcome

i wouldn't get ramshorn snails. i have them and they've taken over. you could get a betta, a little bit of moss, and a mystery or nerite snail though. or a killifish and a mystery/nerite snail. you're kinda limited since that's so small. you could also do the inverts and go shrimp and snails. a couple RCS and CRS, maybe Ghosts, and whatever snails.

Ramshorns will only take over if you over feed. They are hemaphrodite- but unlike some snails- need two to "tango" so a single ramshorn would never "take over".

Although some people do- I wouldn't put shrimp with a betta- unless you don't mind the thought of one day waking up with all your shrimp killed.

Might never happen- but it's a gamble.

There again, I personally would never keep a fish in anything as small as a 2.5gallon- not even a Betta. I know people keep them in even smaller containers. It's a personal choice- I personally wouldn't do it- I think it would be too hard to keep on-top of and unfair on the fish... you really DO need to keep on top of twice weekly water changes if you do that.

I think shrimp and snails make more sense. With the mystery snail bare in mind that that would be pushing it a little because it is a poop-factory so it would have to be just about on it's own or water would quickly turn bad.

I think red ramshorns and some Cherry shrimp would be ideal.

Coincidentally, I'm keeping a Betta and Ramshorns together in a 2.5g. If you don't want the snails to take over, just feed only the Betta. The adult snails can live on algae alone, and the babies will simply die from lack of food.

I've also kept Heterandria formosa and some of the smaller Boraras in 2.5g in the past.

Hey Don, Isaw the pics of what u want t do. Why not do the same and have a sump and make it saltwater?

agreed i say since you already have 2 betta tanks go with something different spice it up a bit get like 3 RCS and 2 CRS and have a little shrimp tank going and dont worry about snails becz the shrimp eat algae so your fine dont need shrimp (trust me you have enough betta's get something different you will love shrimp at least try it and if you dont like it then switch it later for a betta)
