ghost shrimp need brackish water for the baby shrimp to survive. Although it is common for them to get berried, its not very commen for them to survive without brackish water..

Adults are fine in Fresh water.

If she is the only shrimp in your tank, that batch of eggs will be infertile and she will eventually drop them. If there are other ghosts, one may be a male, in which case it would take about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks or so for the eggs to hatch, depending on the tank temperature. If she looks like the one below (sorry for the fuzzy picture :o), then she is probably Palaemonetes paludosus which does not require brackish water for the larvae. If it is a well planted and mature tank, some young might survive.

Good luck,

yes cdirus that is the shrimp and she is the only one in the tank she just berried today and i have what i think is a male and female in a different tank and was wondering if it would be worth it to move them or if it was to late.

looks like just a few this time. maybe 10 or 20 eggs.

if its too late i will just wait till next week and get more for this tank. shipments come on wed. and they are gone by early morning thursday so its kind of a pain to get some some times lol.

the tank she is in is a 10 gal that i use for a qt but right now she is the only thing in there till i get more or something else to keep the tank cycled. would like to keep shrimp in there but like i said can't get more till next week and am sure i will mess up the other tank trying to catch my other 2.

i got 5 originally 2 in on tank and 3 in this one but i lost 2 out of the 5 and of cousre they were both out of this tank.

oh yeh getting a pic may be real hard i do good just to find her. only reason i knew she was berried is she walked out on the filter intake right in front of my nose while i was trying to decide whether or not to pull out the frill that is not doing well cause i don't have enough light or to try and trim it up.

If she is carrying that many eggs, they are probably fertile. And if i recall correct, ghost shrimp are native to the u.s and probably don't need brackish.

I would honestly cover your intake with sponge as the eggs will hatch into larvae. A better idea would be to put her in a tank with a sponge filter. Once teh larvae are released, move her back to her tank as she will eat the babies. The larvae will need finely ground food for the first 2 days, at which time they will turn into baby shrimplets. If you are not ready, I would just leave her where she is and then try next time.
