i have just started with a 29 gallon planted tank a month ago, before i put the plants in it the tank has been set up for 6 months or so. i am having a really big problem with alge and i cant get rid of it. i have hair alge all over my plants and thick alge on my rocks and the glass of the tank. also there is this other kind if alge i have thats bright green and i have to really scrub the glass to get it off, none of my plecos will tought that kind of alhe. i only have one small alge eater in there right now due to 1 week old fry in the tank. is there any chemicals out there that will not hurt my fish??????? or should i just wait until the fry gets bigger and move them into a seperate tank and bring in my larger pleco to clean up the mess. also by the way i was running co2 into the tank and im not anymore.

Tank size?
Lighting (wattage, type, photoperiod)?
Stock?
Parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)?

Your problem is your lighting.

If I am reading your post correctly you are leaving 72 watts of light over a 29 gallon tank on 24/7. You need to cut way back to only 8-10 hours of light.

If you are worried about fry, set up another tank. Otherwise, there is no chance in heck you can battle this algae with that method.

i agree with pappy, you only need your lights on from about noon to 10PM everyday,

you can believe it or not, but fish do sleep and they do need darkness.
